What is an SDU file

SDU files mostly belong to Cisco APIC-EM. SDU files serve different specialized roles. The most common use is as a Cisco device configuration archive, where the file is actually a ZIP container holding the configuration data used by Cisco APIC-EM systems. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. The SDU file type is mainly used by one program with a specific format. But the following two file formats are common:

70% of all SDU files use the ZIP algorithm, multiple files are compressed and combined into one SDU file. The 130 to 610 compressed files are called ACMonitors.DB, ACMonitors.PX, ACVoltageValues.DB and ACVoltageValues.PX. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. SDU files are between 180 KB and 2 MB in size. The files contain the following words: ACMonitors.DB, B@~qfIf~, CpN~ and _inRj. These files are often associated with snapshot, device, profile, ipsec, missoula, packages, umbrella, package, fiveg and fire.
9% of all SDU files start with the bytes SRSC crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 2 MB and 340 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SRSC, Fellowship, Final, Kristof, Lion, Music and Sound. A common filename is Music.sdu or FX.sdu. These files are attributed to interface and sound.
