What is a TDS file

TDS files mostly belong to Tally ERP 9. The TDS file extension is used for different specialized data files. The most common form is the TDS tax return file used by Tally ERP 9 and TallyPrime to record quarterly tax deductions at source. This file maintains tax return data in a proprietary format that only the specific Tally applications can read.
Other variants include:

• Tableau Data Source: An XML-based file used by Tableau Desktop to store metadata and connection settings for databases.
• Test Data Sheet: A file using the Microsoft Compound format. It is also known as a Tabular Data Stream file and may require a dedicated viewer like TDMS File Viewer.
• Turbo Debugger Symbol File: A file used in Delphi that stores debugging symbols, sometimes also referred to as a Tabular Data Stream file.

How can I open a TDS file?

You need a suitable software like Tally ERP 9 to open a TDS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TDS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TDS file directly in the browser:. How to extract texts from TDS files or capture a screenshot to PDF, JPG, DOCX, TXT, ...

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the TDS files looks like this:

TDS is one of the most common file extensions and predominantly uses a uniform format. The following file formats are most commonly found in TDS files:

• 80% of all TDS files have the same signature 1^FH^. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. Most of these files are 1 KB to 70 KB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 202021, 201920, LIMITED, 202122 and PRIVATE. Files like these are about mums, blrs, delm, dels, blra, deld, ches and muma.
• 7% of all TDS files are using the well-known XML file format to store the data. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. A typical file size is 69 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as inline, true, datasource formatted-name, <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' ?>, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, source-platform, <!-- build, APIVersion, http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/, timeStamp, xdp xmlns and xfa generator. An example of a file name is H- Sport Sales Data.tds. Such files sometimes refer to data, admin, sales, sport, form, satisfaction, superstore, customer, request, sample and survey.

All other TDS files (13%) have no uniform format, often e.g. DOC and Magic. The category is elife, blrb, delh, mumt, ahma, ahmk, blrn, calb, calk, chea, dela, delg, hydt, mumf or mumn.
