What is an ACO file

ACO files mostly belong to Photoshop by Adobe. ACO is the extension for the Adobe Color file format. It is used by Adobe Photoshop, a raster graphics editing software. An ACO file is used to store a color swatch, which is a collection of predefined colors. It is a binary format that allows saving and exporting color palettes in Photoshop. Swatches can be managed in the Swatches window in Photoshop. Preset color swatches are available in the software by default. The default library also stores presets for several colour standards such as ANPA, FOCOLTONE, HKS, PANTONE, TOYO, and TRUMATCH, which can be used to ensure conformity to those standards. Users can also make their own custom swatches. ACO files are saved in the \Presets\Color Swatches\ folder of the installation directory. The ACO file format is also used by ArCon, an architectural design and planning software. In this case, it is used to store a project file created in ArCon.

How to open ACO files

You need a suitable software like Photoshop to open an ACO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ACO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ACO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ACO file extension format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the ACO files produces the following result:

The ACO file ending has no uniform or dominant file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

All other ACO files (94%) have no consistent format. Tagged as page, design, landing, logo, mobile, concept or color. If you want to find out which format your ACO file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .aco file to analyze".
