Opening an ADI File
The ADI file type is primarily associated with Writelog.
What is an ADI file
How to open ADI files
You need a suitable software like Writelog to open an ADI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ADI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ADI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ADI file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below is our analysis of the ADI files:
The ADI file extension is used very often and includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 45% of all ADI files start with the bytes BIFH\ crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 29 GB. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as BIFH\ and Disk Backup. The following filename is common: Disk Backup.adi or System Backup(1).adi. These files are often associated with mybackup, back, sistema, windows and image.
- 8% of all ADI files are Amateur Data Interchange Format files. These files contain text and words, not binary data. A typical file size is 12 KB. The keywords ADIF Export, <EOH>, CALL, from, PROGRAMID, QSO_DATE, generated, ADIF_VER and logs are typical for these files. The following filename is common: wsjtx_log.adi. Such ADI files store data about wsjtx, qslrequests and clublog.
All other ADI files (47%) have no uniform format, the following 8 formats can be found: WSJT, QRZLogbook, ARRL and PROGRAMID. Sometimes used for dxcc, adif, dell or qsls. Just click the "Choose your .adi file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your ADI file is.

How to solve problems with ADI files
- Associate the ADI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open logs. Because only the current version supports the latest ADI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Writelog manufacturer website after an available Writelog update.
- To make sure that your ADI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ADI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
