What is an AFL file?

AFL files mostly belong to AmiBroker. AFL files have two main functions. The most common use is as AmiBroker Formula Language files. These are script files that contain formulas, functions, and commands used to calculate market indicators, build chart studies, and execute trading strategies. They can be opened in any plain text editor or directly within the AmiBroker application.

How can I open an AFL file?

You need a suitable software like AmiBroker to open an AFL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. The average file size is 1 KB with most files being between 440 bytes and 1 KB in size. A common filename is Zero2heroScanner.afl or CAMRILLA.afl. Files like these are sometimes connected to hero, zero, breakout and weekly.

All other AFL files (65%) have no consistent format, the following 10 formats exist: Source, XML, Set, GraphXSpace, RLT, ParamField and DFRF.
