What is an ASZ file?

ASZ files mostly belong to XnView. ASZ files are not a single type of file but a file extension used in different applications. The most common use is as an XnView skin file, which holds settings that define the look and user interface elements of the XnView image viewer.

XnView Skin File: Stores configuration data for the appearance of XnView. It may also be used in software like Rainmeter for UI customization.
CAD Drawing File: In some cases, an ASZ file is a CAD drawing file that uses GZIP compression. This version is used with ArchiCAD to hold design and drafting data.
KUKA Robot Project File: Some ASZ files are created by KUKA software (such as KUKA.Sim Pro or via KUKA WorkVisual) to contain project data for robot simulations.
3D CAD Assembly File: A few ASZ files serve as 3D assembly files used in Siemens environments (like Siemens Simatic Step 7 and Siemens LOGO! Program) for industrial automation projects.

How do you open ASZ files?

You need a suitable software like XnView to open an ASZ file. ASZ file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the ASZ files produces the following result:

ASZ is not a commonly used file extension and predominantly uses a uniform format. The following file formats are most commonly found in ASZ files:

80% of all ASZ files are Balabolka Skin files. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Files like these have the following tags: metro, dark, agua, alter, skin, beijing, miracle, nautilus, plastico, office, black, blue, team and wood.
6% of all ASZ files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "î[µk" at the beginning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are on average 4 MB in size and range from 4 KB to 6 MB. The files contain the following words: ImagePool.
