All about ATT Files

The ATT file type is primarily associated with Alphacam.

ATTFile Extension ATT
File extension: ATT
File type:  lathe tool

What is an ATT file?

ATT files mostly belong to Alphacam by Hexagon. An ATT file contains one or more lathe tools used by Alphacam computer-aided design/manufacturing software. A lathe tool file contains control parameters that allow the physical lathe tool on a wood, metal, or stone cutting machine to rotate a workpiece on its axis during milling, facing, or cutting operation. Another type of ATT file contains a waypoint (indeterminate point or place on a route) used by SeeYou and SeeYou Navigator flight planning/analysis programs. An ATT file created by Vissim traffic flow simulation software contains results of a traffic flow simulation.

How to open an ATT file

You need a suitable software like Alphacam to open an ATT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ATT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ATT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ATT file format details:

To view or edit ATT files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the ATT files comes to the following conclusion:

The ATT file extension is used very often and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

The remaining 75% of all ATT files are files with no common format, such as ZIP, DOC, UTF-8, TIFF, VISION, From and BEGIN. These files are often connected to results, attachment, node, terrain, vehicle, lading or bill. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your ATT file!

an att lathe tool is a special file format by Hexagon and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with ATT files

  • Associate the ATT file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open lathe tools. Because only the current version supports the latest ATT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Hexagon manufacturer website after an available Alphacam update.
