What is an AWD file?

AWD files mostly belong to Away3D by Away. Files with AWD filename extension are usually documents containing drawings or paintings created with Artweaver painting software. An AWD document contains sketches, layers, brush strokes, text, and other graphics elements that make up a drawing. Draw, a vector graphics editor and layout program also stores drawings AWD files. Away3D, an open-source 3D software that uses Flash and/or HTML5 technology to create interactive applications and video games stores 3D models in AWD files. The contents of these files may include meshes, skeletal properties of a character, and character appearance parameters. AWD filename extension is also associated with BIOS update files used to flash the BIOS of some motherboards that use Award BIOS. The AWD BIOS update file contains the system firmware, bug fixes, and other information vital to the operation of a computer. How to open an AWD file

You need a suitable software like Away3D to open an AWD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The AWD file extension is used very often and covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

40% of all AWD files use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format.
