What is a BOB file?

BOB files mostly belong to Blender. BOB files are container files that can hold different types of data, depending on the software that created them.
Many applications use the BOB extension to package specialized data. For example:

3D Model Data: Some BOB files, such as the ones from Blender, are used as Binary Object Bundles. These files store 3D models or game objects (as seen in titles like Minigore and X3) and may include geometry, textures, or other asset information.

Game Data Files: Other variants act as scenery or object files for games. Examples include the Sierra scenery file from BobCAD-CAM and the Binary Object Blob used in LEGO Racers. They package game-related content for quick loading in a game engine.

Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are 81 KB to 41 MB in size, with a median of 10 MB. The files contain the following words: Document/FixedDocument.fdoc. Examples of file names are Exact_BackUp-2020-06-01.BOB. Such files sometimes refer to exact and back.
