CAT file format details:
To view or edit CAT files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the CAT files produces the following result:
The CAT file extension is very common and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in CAT files:
- 40% of all CAT files belong to Microsoft Security Catalog. The files are using the common file format certificate. A digital certificate is a unique, digitally signed document which authoritatively identifies the identity of an individual or organization. Using public key cryptography, its authenticity can be verified to ensure that the software or website you are using is legitimate. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 10 KB in size and range from 7 KB to 17 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. The file name CodeIntegrity.cat is typical for these files. Such CAT files store data about windows, microsoft, package, integrity, code, amdacpbus, studio and visual.
- 7% of all CAT files start with the bytes 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00, which are crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The average file size is 540 KB with most files being between 32 KB and 6 MB in size. Files like these are sometimes connected to script, shootmove, base and ilst.
All the rest of the CAT files (53%) have different formats, often e.g. Casio calculator Tape format, Elcomsoft ADC Advanced Disc Catalog, ZIP, XML, DOC, plist, CAT, PDS, AQUA, Version and GURU. Files like these are sometimes linked to boot, stars, client, shell, data, catalog, edition or update. You can get all the details of your CAT file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .cat file to view this image" above.
