All about CLP Files
The CLP file type is primarily associated with Clipboardic.
What is a CLP file
For instance, one type of CLP file serves as a clipboard image format. In this case, the file holds an image copied to the clipboard and is handled by software such as Clipboardic.
Another use is as a CLIPS source code file. These files contain rules written in the CLIPS rule language and are simple text files that you can open with any plain text editor.
Some CLP files are generated for label printing. For example, they may store Courier Label Print data or printer command language instructions. These are used by applications like ZebraDesigner. More on this can be found at Zebra's website.
Other uses include:
How can I open a CLP file?
You need a suitable software like Clipboardic to open a CLP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CLP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CLP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CLP file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our analysis of the CLP files produces the following result:
The CLP file ending includes different formats for the applicable programs. The file formats most commonly found in CLP files are:
- 45% of all CLP files are Windows Clipboard files. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are 6 KB to 10 MB in size, with a median of 470 KB. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. &DIB Bitmap. Files like these are sometimes connected to logo, and have often person-related content.
- 8% of all CLP files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "(def" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. CLP files can be up to 18 KB in size, but are often around 500 bytes - 7 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as deftemplate, slot and defrule. These files are often associated with rules.
All the rest of the CLP files (47%) have different formats, frequently e.g. PC Paint/Pictor bitmap, Quattro Pro Clip art, PISIH and PMLC. Tagged as clip, label, goop, animal, ppage or deco. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CLP file!

a clp data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CLP files
- Associate the CLP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest CLP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Clipboardic update.
- To make sure that your CLP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CLP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
