All about CSH Files
The CSH file type is primarily associated with C Shell.
What is a CSH file?
How to open CSH files
You need a suitable software like C Shell to open a CSH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CSH file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CSH file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CSH file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the CSH files looks like this:
The CSH file extension is not common and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 45% of all CSH files are associated with Adobe Photoshop Custom Shape. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The average file size is 630 KB with most files being between 16 KB and 37 MB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. The files contain the following words: cush. An example of a file name is 500 b.csh. Such files are related to shapes.
- 15% of all CSH files save the data in shell script file format. A shell script is a text file that contains shell commands for a UNIX-based operating system. The first line of such a text file is often #!/usr/bin/env or #!/bin/sh. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. Most of these files are 1 KB to 7 KB in size. The files contain the following words: script, tcsh, ############ and Data. Such files sometimes refer to download.
All the rest of the CSH files (40%) have different formats. They are often associated with dmmmc. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CSH file!

a csh shell script is a special file format by Hamilton Labs and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CSH files
- Associate the CSH file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open shell scripts. Because only the current version supports the latest CSH file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Hamilton Labs manufacturer website after an available C Shell update.
- To make sure that your CSH file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CSH file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
