What is a CSM file

CSM files mostly belong to C++ by Micro Focus. CSM file extension is primarily associated with positional markers for 3D biped models created using 3DS Max (formerly 3D Studio), a professional 3D animation software. Such CSM files contain data saved using ASCII text format and stored in the motion capture buffer format of 3DS Max. Steam, a gaming web-service and desktop client uses CSM file extension to store game backups. CSM file extension is also used to store the metadata of CSV tables created with the CSV Storage Engine of MySQL. Such CSM files contain information such as the total number of rows in the CSV file. C++, a Windows and DOS integrated development environment for the C and C++ programming languages stores precompiled headers used to reduce compilation time in CSM files.

A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. The average file size is 2 MB with most files being between 130 KB and 3 MB in size. The files contain the following words: DSKIMG, GARMIN and OSM street map.
