What is a CUE file?

CUE files mostly belong to Nero by Nero. A CUE file contains the cue sheet for controlling the playback of audio tracks stored on a compact disc. Audio track information stored in a cue sheet include artist name, song length, track name, album name etc. saved as text. CD authoring programs such as IsoBuster, UltraISO, CDRWin, and Nero can create and burn a CUE file to a disc. Music players such as VLC use a CUE file to control the playback of a compact disc.

How can I open a CUE file?

You need a suitable software like Nero to open a CUE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CUE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CUE file directly in the browser:. The files are 760 bytes to 1 KB in size, with a median of 1 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. FILE, PERFORMER, TITLE, TRACK 01 AUDIO and INDEX 01 00:00:00.
