Opening a CXT File
The CXT file type is primarily associated with Director.
What is a CXT file?
- Main Use: The CX-Programmer application is bundled along with the CX-One package suite from Omron. It uses CXT files to save developer project files. The data in these project files are saved in a plain text format and can also be partially read using text editors such as Notepad++. The CXT project files contain information relating to user parameters and data parameters. The data in CXT project files are not stored in a compressed format.
- Other Uses: CXT file format is also used as a data file by the Director application from Adobe Systems. Adobe Director is a multimedia authoring application that stores cast files or objects in a protected CXT file format that needs special editing permissions. The protected CXT files can be safely shared among different users without the risk of getting altered in transit. The latest version of the Adobe Director software saves cast files in CCT file format instead of the CXT file format. CXT files can be opened using Adobe Director on Windows and macOS systems.
How to open a CXT file
You need a suitable software like Director to open a CXT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CXT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CXT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert CXT files:
- Director by Adobe
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. CXT files are often referred to as Director data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Crocodile Technology (electric circuit file) by Crocodile ClipsCrocodile Technology is an electronics simulation software that allows users to make 3D models and design printed circuit boards (PCBs). The CXT file format is used to store a circuit designed using Crocodile Technology. Crocodile Technology has now been replaced by Yenka, which can also open these files. This file format is classified as CAD. Related links: Overview of Crocodile Technology, Open Using Yenka, PCB Tutorial Mentioning Crocodile Technology, Crocodile Technology Video Tutorial (Arabic)

CXT format details:
To find out what program is needed to open CXT files, you need to determine the file format. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our examination of the CXT files comes to the following conclusion:
CXT is a very common file type and mainly uses a defined CXT format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 75% of all CXT files have the same signature XFIR. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 22 KB to 44 MB. The file type was used 20 years ago. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as pami, 39VMpami, *YEK, eerf, XFIR, pamm and tSAC. These files are often associated with sounds, audio, periode, text, common, questionsa, script, sound and tiles.
- 15% of all CXT files are Adobe Director Protected Cast files, which are based on the RIFX file format. The RIFX format is an eXtended RIFF format. RIFF files store data in tagged chunks. There are primarily used to store multimedia such as sound and video. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 62 KB and 12 MB in size. The files contain the following words: RIFX, imap, mmap, KEY*, CASt, MV93imap and free. Such files sometimes refer to plate and mettcast.
All the rest of the CXT files (10%) have different formats, often, for example, ZIP, HDCS and CXProgVer. Files like these are sometimes linked to sons, modern, speaks, data, listening, images or cast. If you want to find out which format your CXT file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .cxt file to analyze".

How to solve problems with CXT files
- Associate the CXT file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open director cast files. Because only the current version supports the latest CXT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Adobe manufacturer website after an available Director update.
- To make sure that your CXT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
