Opening a DDB File
The DDB file type is primarily associated with Designer.
What is a DDB file?
How can I open a DDB file?
You need a suitable software like Designer to open a DDB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DDB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DDB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert DDB files:
- Designer by Altium
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. DDB files are often referred to as Designer databases because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

- Cmd (device-dependent bitmap) by MicrosoftCmd is a built-in command-line interpreter for Windows operating system. Device-dependent bitmaps (DDB files) can be created with Cmd through batch scripting. This file format is classified as Raster Image. Related links: Device-Dependent Bitmaps, ACDSee
- Design Explorer (PCB design database) by AltiumDesign Explorer was an integrated development environment for designing printed circuit boards (electronic board schematics). It was also used to simulate the operation of circuits built for various applications. The printed circuit board design database used by Design Explorer was saved in a DDB file written in JET Database format. This file format is classified as Database. - DProfiler (cost database) by BeckDProfiler is a building information modeler for providing real-time cost analysis, with 3D visualization. It is used to estimate project cost, perform feasibility analysis, and generate building pro-formas. DProfiler stores its cost database in a DDB file. This program appears to have been discontinued. This file format is classified as Database.
- IMS D7007 (debugging information) by INMOSIMS D700D was a DOS-based transputer development system software package for writing and compiling programs written in Occam programming language. DDB file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below is our analysis of the DDB files:
Files with the DDB extension are quite widely used. This file type includes various formats for various programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 45% of all DDB files save the data in JetDB file format. The JetDB is a database format often used by Microsoft Access and Visual Basic programs. JET is short for Joint Engine Technology. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 310 KB to 8 MB in size, with a median of 1 MB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. The files contain the following words: Standard Jet DB. These files are often associated with mydesign, diagram, board, door, wire, schematic, layout and power.
- 10% of all DDB files start with the magic bytes FRM2, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 360 MB and 2 GB in size. The keywords FRM2 are typical for these files. An example of a file name is MIKU_V4X_Original_EVEC.ddb or miku.ddb. Such files are related to original, english, evec and megpoid.
All other DDB files (45%) have different formats, often, for example, DeSmuME DataBase, AllMyNotes Organizer Data Base, SQL, ZIP and oPew. Files like these are sometimes linked to center, site, active, mynotes, documents or backup. Just click the "Choose your .ddb file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your DDB file is.

a ddb PCB design database is a special file format by Altium and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with DDB files
- Associate the DDB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open pcb design databases. Because only the current version supports the latest DDB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Altium manufacturer website after an available Designer update.
- To make sure that your DDB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .DDB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
