What is a DDF file?

DDF files mostly belong to Notepad by Microsoft. DDF is the extension for a Diamond Directive File. A DDF file specifies properties for compressing a Windows Cabinet (CAB) file. CAB files are compressed data archives that are used for Windows software installations, such as system and device driver updates. DDF files are in plain text format and can be opened in any text editor. The DDF file itself is not placed in the CAB file. The DDF file extension is also used by IBM Sterling Gentran:Server for its Data Definition Format file. IBM Sterling Gentran:Server is a software for data translation, process control, and data communication for the Microsoft Windows operating system. The main purpose of this software is the translation and communication of electronic data interchange (EDI) and other similar types of data. Rede Nacional de Dados (RND) is a Brazilian automotive standard for the exchange of business documents. RND standard files are not directly included in the Sterling Gentran:Server database of EDI standards. Instead, RND support is provided via DDF files on the Sterling Gentran:Server Standards DVD. DDF files contain the RND standard layout, which is the description of the input or output side of a source map. This description is in an XML format.

DDF format details:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the DDF files is as follows:

The DDF file extension is not widely used. Such a file includes different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

The remaining 72% of all DDF files are different files with different signatures, the following 7 formats can be found: config, OPTION and DTDF. These files sometimes refer to fuzzy, dispatch or binfile. Just click the "Choose your .ddf file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your DDF file is.
