Opening a DIG File
The DIG file type is primarily associated with Logisim.
What is a DIG file?
Digital Circuit Simulation File: DIG files are used for technical data storage. The most common use is to hold digital circuit simulation designs in an XML-based format. Programs such as Logisim read these files to let you design, test, and analyze logical circuits.
- CAD Drawing: Some DIG files carry CAD drawing data used by software like JETCAM Expert. This version holds design information for technical drawings.
- Radio Configuration: Other DIG files work as radio configuration files. They store programming data for radio systems, as seen with the KT558 Radio Program.
- Sound Card Driver: In some cases, DIG files are used as configuration files for sound card drivers. They contain settings for hardware like Sound Blaster devices.
FilExt.com tip: To open and view a DIG file, use the software that created it. Editing via a plain text editor is possible for XML-based files, but using the dedicated application avoids errors.
How to open DIG files
You need a suitable software like Logisim to open a DIG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DIG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DIG file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert DIG files:
- Logisim
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. DIG files are often referred to as Logisim data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Digilink Format
- Sound Designer Audio FileThis is a Macintosh format. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: 05 6C 00 20.
- Text DocumentThis file format is classified as Text.
DIG format details:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below you will find our evaluation of the DIG files:
DIG is not a commonly used file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in DIG files:
- 50% of all DIG files save the data in XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. Most of these files are 3 KB to 22 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, <circuit>, <version>1</version>, <visualElements>, <attributes/>, <visualElement>, elementName, <elementAttributes> and <elementAttributes/>. Examples of file names are encrypt.dig or circuit_1.dig. Such files sometimes refer to lecture and adder.
- 7% of all DIG files belong to Audio Interface Library 3 Digital audio driver. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 3 KB. The keywords AIL3DIG are typical for these files. A usual file name is ADRV688.DIG or SBLASTER.DIG.
All the rest of the DIG files (43%) have different formats, often, for example, Radio. If you want to find out what your DIG file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for DIG File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Sony\Sound Forge 7.0\forge70.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\DrvImagerXP\DrvImagerXP.exe
a dig simulation file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with DIG files
- Associate the DIG file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open simulation files. Because only the current version supports the latest DIG file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Logisim update.
- To make sure that your DIG file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .DIG file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
