What is a DSF file?

DSF files mostly belong to DAZ Studio by DAZ. DSF filename extension is mainly associated with assets created and used by DAZ Studio 3D animation and modeling software. This file may be used to store and distribute 3D content including scenery, character pose, materials, or shaders written in JSON format and sometimes compressed using ZIP compression. DSF is also the filename extension of a story project created with Dramatica brainstorming and story organization software for authors. This file contains the plot, setting, characters, themes, author, and progression of a story. Another type of DSF file contains the scenery, geographic coordinates, and climate information used by X-Plane flight simulation software. Some digital video recorders (DVRs) (e.g. the VN1000) distributed as part of Vicon's surveillance systems, save video recordings captured by connected cameras in a DSF file. How to open DSF files

You need a suitable software like DAZ Studio to open a DSF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Sections and streams in the file have names like DesignerDoc. The files are on average 29 KB in size and range from 6 KB to 560 KB. Files like these are sometimes connected to schaltplan.

The remaining 25% of all DSF files are files with no common format, often e.g. X-Plane Distribution Scenery Format, Dune Service File, JSON, GZIP, 7z and ZIP.
