Opening a DSP File
The DSP file type is primarily associated with Visual Studio.
What is a DSP file?
How to open a DSP file
You need a suitable software like Visual Studio to open a DSP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DSP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DSP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert DSP files:
- Visual Studio by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. DSP files are often referred to as Visual Studio developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Dr. Halo (graphics display driver) by Media CyberneticsDr. Halo was an image editor and digital painting software for classic DOS computers. Its graphics display driver was saved in a DSP file. This program is obsolete. This file format is classified as System.
- Dynamic StudioDynamic Studio appears to be a very old digital audio workstation used for music production. It saved some of its music modules in DSP files. This file format is classified as Audio.
- SystemWorks (driver) by NortonLifeLockSystemWorks is a discontinued system utilities software suite for classic Windows and macOS. The driver of its Viewer component is saved in a DSP file. This file is actually a DLL file with a different extension. This file format is classified as System.
DSP file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the DSP files:
The DSP file ending includes many different file formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in DSP files:
- 15% of all DSP files use the same file format, which have the signature sinacsa Scan 1. The contents of these files are partially readable with a text editor. The files are on average 3 KB in size and range from 2 KB to 7 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Scan, sinacsa and Version 1.
- 10% of all DSP files are MS Developer Studio Project files, which are using the popular config file format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are on average 5 KB in size and range from 4 KB to 7 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: - Package Owner, Microsoft Developer Studio Project File - Name, Package Owner=<4>, Studio Project, # ** DO NOT EDIT **, # Microsoft Developer Studio Generated Build File, Format Version 6.00 and TARGTYPE "Win32 (x86).
All the rest of the DSP files (75%) have different formats, often, for example, UTF-16 (LE), Begin and aXb. These files sometimes refer to ambience, profile, milano, frame, green, baba or room. You can get all the details of your DSP file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .dsp file to analyze" above.

How to solve problems with DSP files
- Associate the DSP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open projects. Because only the current version supports the latest DSP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Visual Studio update.
- To make sure that your DSP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .DSP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
