What is a DST file
How can I open a DST file?
You need a suitable software like Tajima DG16 to open a DST file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DST file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DST file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

DST format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the DST files looks like this:
The DST extension is very commonly used. This DST file itself is among the most popular common file types and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 75% of all DST files are Embroidery files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 6 KB and 73 KB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as PD:******, MX:+ 0 and MY:+ 0. These files are often associated with logo, front, design, left, embroidery, inches, theohi, back and high.
- 10% of all DST files internally utilize the JFIF file format. JFIF is short for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a bitmap graphic that uses JPEG compression. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 92 KB in size and range from 19 KB to 410 KB. The keywords JFIF and 8BIM are typical for these files. Such files are related to conv and jpeg.
All the rest of the DST files (15%) have different formats, such as AutoCAD Sheet Set and PDF. Files like these are sometimes linked to sheet, large, construction, outline, ryerson, cheers, vector, black, right, small, area, buti, face, gata, only or rams. Just click the "Choose your .dst file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your DST file is.

How to solve problems with DST files
- Associate the DST file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open stitch designs. Because only the current version supports the latest DST file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Tajima manufacturer website after an available Tajima DG16 update.
- To make sure that your DST file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .DST file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
