What is an EBK file?

EBK files mostly belong to Wizpen EBK Reader. An EBK file can be one of several types, each serving a different purpose. The most common use is as an electronic book file. In this role, the file stores text, images, and layout data for digital reading and is used with dedicated eBook reader software such as Wizpen EBK Reader.
Some EBK files are also used as backup files. For example, devices from Samsung may create an EBK file as a backup through applications like Samsung Smart Switch (Samsung official site) or the older Samsung Kies. Similarly, structural modeling software like ETABS uses its own version of EBK files to save backup copies of a building model (ETABS product page).

How to open an EBK file

EBK file extension format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. EBK is a very common file type and covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 40% of all EBK files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "EBK" at the beginning. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 26 MB with most files being between 980 KB and 210 MB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The files contain the following words: EBK> and ReadMe.txtt. A usual file name is Minnano_1.EBK. • 30% of all EBK files are associated with Samsung Kies backup files, which internally utilize the well-known SAMSUNG format. The file is a SAMSUNG Kies backup file, used to backup and recover from Samsung devices using Kies. Samsung has released new software to replace Kies, named Samsung Smart Switch, which is mainly directed at migrating customers onto new Samsung devices. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 1 KB to 520 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as tvmnn. The file name Calllog.ebk or WIFI.ebk is typical for these files. Such files sometimes refer to setting, email, screen, lock, wallpaper, callog and alarm.

All other EBK files (30%) have different formats, often, for example, UTF-8, ZIP, ETABS, book, sqx, ebk and EZLB. Often described as backup, contact, multibook, sbrowser, isgott or model.
