Opening FLA Files
The FLA file type is primarily associated with VLC.
What is an FLA file
How to open FLA files
You need a suitable software like VLC to open an FLA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FLA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FLA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert FLA files:
- VLC by VideoLAN
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FLA files are often referred to as VLC audios because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Animate (multimedia) by AdobeAnimate is a Windows and macOS program for creating animations. It can open and edit an FLA file containing multimedia content saved in Flash format. This file format is classified as Developer. Related links: Flash Easy Editor
FLA file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the FLA files:
The FLA file extension is quite widespread and primarily uses a special format that can be read by various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in FLA files:
- 60% of all FLA files internally use the ZIP format, so several files are combined and compressed into one FLA file. FLA files contain from 10 to 200 compressed files. File names are e.g. DOMDocument.xml, MobileSettings.xml, PublishSettings.xml, mimetype, \bin\ and \publishtemplates\. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. A typical file size is 2 MB. The keywords LIBRARY/PK, META-INF/PK, DOMDocument.xml and xflPROXY-CS5PK are typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: assets, animation, template, recover, flash, intro, project and castle.
- 40% of all FLA files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Microsoft Compound File is a complex container format used by some versions of Microsoft Office and other Windows-centric applications. It has features similar to those of a filesystem format. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). The unique Windows component object identifier is 597caa70-72aa-11cf-831e-524153480000 or b4f235fe-dca6-4803-b7b2-c25a453c836b. The file contains several sections with names like Contents and Page 1. The files are often between 53 KB and 15 MB in size. Such files sometimes refer to friend, sheet, menu, characters, pixels and death.
