All about FPX Files
The FPX file type is primarily associated with Visual Foxpro.
What is an FPX file
How do you open FPX files?
You need a suitable software like Visual Foxpro to open an FPX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FPX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FPX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

FPX file extension format:
To find out what program is needed to open FPX files, you need to determine the file format. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the FPX files:
The FPX file extension is used very often and predominantly uses a uniform format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 90% of all FPX files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known by the name OLE2 Compound Document Format or Composite Document File Format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. The internal app name of FPX files is Picture Easy Software 3 or DC210 Zoom (V05.00). The unique Windows component object identifier is 56616700-c154-11ce-8553-00aa00a1f95b. The file contains several sections which are named like Data Object Store 000001, SummaryInformation, Data Object 000001, Global Info, CompObj, Data Object 000002, Operation 000001 and Transform 000001. The average file size is 630 KB with most files being between 130 KB and 1 MB in size. This file type was primarily in use more than 20 years ago. Files like these are sometimes connected to photo, kreeta, scan, bild and line.
- 4% of all FPX files are based on the popular GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 3 KB to 230 KB in size. These files are attributed to person-related data.
All other FPX files (6%) have different formats. These files are often connected to sales. If you want to find out what your FPX file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

an fpx compiled program is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with FPX files
- Associate the FPX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open compiled programs. Because only the current version supports the latest FPX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Visual Foxpro update.
- To make sure that your FPX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FPX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
