What is a HYP file?

HYP files mostly belong to HyperLynx by Mentor. HYP files are dictionary information files mainly utilized by Adobe Systems programs for grammar and spell check integrated functions.

• Main Usage: HYP files store dictionary words and entries about the English language in order for them to be utilized by many different Adobe programs in the form of spell and grammar checking applications. Additionally, the HYP format was created to handle and support multiple languages, not just English. Due to the fact that these files are compressed, they require less disk space for supporting multiple languages across all Adobe platforms.
• Support: In addition to Adobe programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign, many other developer applications such as those created by ACD Systems are able to use HYP files. Windows and Mac OS based systems are both able to run HYP files on an Adobe program, however ACD Systems are incompatible with Mac OS based systems.

How to open HYP files

You need a suitable software like HyperLynx to open a HYP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your HYP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a HYP file directly in the browser:. HYP file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our examination of the HYP files comes to the following conclusion:

HYP is a very widely used file extension. The file type predominantly uses a uniform format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 90% of all HYP files are associated with Standard Jet database files, which internally utilize the well-known JetDB format. The JetDB is a database format often used by Microsoft Access and Visual Basic programs. JET is short for Joint Engine Technology. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 1 MB to 3 MB. The file type is old but is used even today. The keywords Standard Jet DB are typical for these files. S2020_20180601.hyp is a typical file name. These files can be linked to rozostavan, rodinn, bratislava, pozemok, posudok, parc, budova and rozost.
• 3% of all HYP files start with the magic bytes 0 X , which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 3 KB to 6 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 0   X F X X Age 33   Startdate 25-APR-1989 X X X LightsOff 21:57:00   25.04.8914.50.00512. Some examples of file names are sc4002e0.hyp or sc4012e0.hyp.

All other HYP files (7%) have no consistent format, often, for example, Java, HDOC and VERSION. They are often associated with rozostavany, rodinny, dome, petrzalka, znalecky, bytovom, dunaji, presov, zvolen, hyper or ovce.
