What is an IDC file

IDC files mostly belong to IDA Pro.

IDC files are not a single file type. They come in different forms depending on the software that creates them.
For example, one kind is a ZIP archive that contains an SQL file. This type of file is used to deliver a compressed SQL database update. You can open it with any standard archive extractor and then view the SQL file with a text or database viewer.
Another kind is the Ibeo Data Container, which stores data from a laser scanner (SICK laser scanner data file). This format works with Ibeo Data Analyzer. More details can be found on the related webpage.
A very common form is linked to Hex-Rays' IDA Pro. These IDC files include database files, script files, and project settings used in the interactive disassembler. There is also a variant used as a level logger data file. This file holds measurement data and is intended for use with specialized logger software (such as Reader_ST4 or Reader_ST4.11).
Each IDC file follows its own internal structure. Determining its purpose requires knowing its origin and the tool that created it.

How can I open an IDC file?

You need a suitable software like IDA Pro to open an IDC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IDC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IDC file directly in the browser:. As a file extension, IDC isn't very common and does not have a uniform file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 15% of all IDC files are based on the zip format, i.e. an IDC file contains several compressed files. An IDC file contains 1 to 16 files, the average being 1. File names inside are always TABELASNACIONAISREGIONAIS1.sql. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. The files are 250 KB to 270 KB in size, with a median of 260 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. TABELASNACIONAISREGIONAIS. Such files sometimes refer to tabelasnacionaisregionais.
• 15% of all IDC files start with the bytes ¯þÀÂ crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 2 MB to 1 GB in size, with a median of 65 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SYSTEM. The file name 20180601.idc is characteristic of these files. Such files sometimes refer to radar and ibeo.
