What is an IFO file?
How to open IFO files
You need a suitable software like Media Player to open an IFO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IFO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IFO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

IFO format details:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the IFO files is as follows:
IFO is a very common file type and mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in IFO files:
- 95% of all IFO files are DVD Info files. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 18 KB in size and range from 10 KB to 57 KB. This file type was primarily in use more than 20 years ago. The files contain the following words: DVDVIDEO-VMG and DVDVIDEO-VTS. Some examples of file names are VIDEO_TS.IFO or VTS_01_0.IFO. These files can be linked to video and mangr.
- 1% of all IFO files are associated with StarDict Info. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are often between 240 bytes and 330 bytes in size.
All other IFO files (4%) have no consistent format. Just click the "Choose your .ifo file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your IFO file is.
