What is an IPX file
How to open an IPX file
You need a suitable software like IPIX Viewer to open an IPX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IPX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IPX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

IPX file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our examination of the IPX files comes to the following conclusion:
The IPX file extension is not common and covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in IPX files:
- 55% of all IPX files are associated with Ipix Spherical Panorama. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The file size is in the range of 99 KB to 620 KB. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. Such files sometimes refer to medres.
- 25% of all IPX files internally use the ZIP format, the IPX file contains a number of compressed files. The number of files included is on average 4 and ranges from 1 to 7. File names inside are index.xml. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The files are 310 bytes to 140 KB in size, with a median of 5 KB.
All other IPX files (20%) have no uniform format. Sometimes used for ruler. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your IPX file!
