What is a JPC file?

JPC files mostly belong to JasPer / OpenJPEG. The JPC file is a JPEG 2000 image file that contains image data in a codestream format. It is used by systems that implement the JPEG 2000 standard for image compression.
There are two approaches seen in these files:
  • JPEG 2000 image file – often associated with the JasPer toolkit.
  • JPEG 2000 codestream – a method supported by the OpenJPEG library.

    How to open JPC files

    You need a suitable software like JasPer / OpenJPEG to open a JPC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your JPC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a JPC file directly in the browser:.
