What is a JPS file?

JPS files mostly belong to XnView by XnSoft. JPS is a stereo pair image file format that uses JPEG image compression algorithm. Files saved in this format have JPS (short for JPEG Stereoscopic) filename extension and they contain two logical images placed side-by-side, cross-eyed, or in a wide-eyed arrangement. Images saved in JPS format are rendered as 3D images when viewed with special software or equipment, whereas, standard image processing programs display the images as 2D graphics. Apart from the standard markers and metadata in standard JPEG-encoded images, JPS files contain additional flags stored in the JPEG APP3 marker field indicating how the two logical images in the file should be interpreted. JPS filename extension is also used by files containing 2D designs created with Print Studio graphics design software. JPS is also the filename extension of backup archives created with Akeeba Backup, a backup and site transfer tool for Joomla content management system.

How can I open a JPS file?

You need a suitable software like XnView to open a JPS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your JPS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a JPS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the JPS files looks like this:
