What is an MMM file?

MMM files mostly belong to Sound Forge. Multimedia Project Files: Many MMM files use the RIFF structure to store multimedia movie data. They are used as project files in audio/video applications such as Sound Forge and also appear as MultiMedia Fusion project files.
Video File Format: Other MMM files are compressed with GZIP and serve as video files. This form is common in Apple iMovie, as detailed in iMovie support.
Design and Texture Templates: Some files with the MMM extension act as templates for paint protection films or as 3D model texture files. These are used in design applications like EasyCut Pro and by systems from MetaCAM ArtCut.
Mind Mapping Documents: A few MMM files are used for mind mapping. They appear as Mind Melt Mesmerize files or MindManager Map Documents and can be opened with compatible mind mapping software such as that showcased on MindMaster.
Encrypted Files: A small number of these files are encrypted PDF documents, often created using obfuscation tools like Allatori Obfuscator by companies such as Multimate (mega.nz).
Through the use of different internal formats (RIFF, GZIP, ZIP), the MMM extension does not imply a single file type.

How to open an MMM file

You need a suitable software like Sound Forge to open an MMM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MMM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MMM file directly in the browser:. MMM file format:

To view or edit MMM files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our analysis of the MMM files produces the following result:

The MMM file extension is rarely used and includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 35% of all MMM files belong to MultiMedia Movie format video. The files are using the common file format RIFF. RIFF files store data in tagged chunks. There are primarily used to store multimedia such as sound and video. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 490 KB in size and range from 86 KB to 860 KB. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. The following keywords are characteristic: RIFF, SEKDSVIP, UUUUUU, VWCF, DIB, VWCR and McNm. A common filename is New.MMM.
• 15% of all MMM files store the data in the GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are often between 2 KB and 23 KB in size.
