What is an MNY file

MNY files mostly belong to Money by Microsoft. MNY file extension is a data file format associated with the Money application developed by Microsoft.

• Main Use:MNY stands for Microsoft Money file. Microsoft Money program is used in the management of personal/business finances with the aim of reaching long-term financial targets and balancing investments. Money application uses MNY files for storing financial information across multiple checking, saving, and investment accounts. Microsoft Money uses the file extension MBF to store the contents of an archived MNY file. MBF stands for Money Backup File.
• Additional Information: Microsoft Money application was replaced by the Microsoft Money Plus Sunset application. However, Microsoft Money Plus Sunset cannot open MNY files that were created using the U.S version of the software. MNY files can be converted into QIF (Quicken Interchange Format), the native file format of the financial management software Quicken, by using the File → Export option in the Money Plus Sunset software. Similar, Quicken software is equipped to convert the QIF files back into MNY file format by navigating through the File Import → Microsoft Money file options from the File menu in the software.

How to open MNY files

You need a suitable software like Money from Microsoft to open an MNY file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
