What is an MPP file?

MPP files mostly belong to Project by Microsoft. An MPP file is a Microsoft Project data file. It's used by project managers and project team members for organization, tracking, and maintenance of a project such as controlling workloads, scheduling, finance, and more.

File structure: The file itself contains a list of tasks with milestones leading to a specific goal of a given project. Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Sections and streams in the file are named SummaryInformation, CompObj, DocumentSummaryInformation, 114, 214 and Props14. The files are on average 600 KB in size and range from 270 KB to 2 MB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. These files can be linked to project, plan, schedule, terminplan, projektplan, projekt, planning and timeline.
