Opening an ORG File
The ORG file type is primarily associated with Emacs.
What is an ORG file?
This extension is associated with several programs, the most common being Lotus Organizer by IBM, which was a personal organization and project management software. This program creates ORG files containing personal information, tasks, reminders, notes etc. However, Lotus Organizer was discontinued in 2013.
The action/adventure video game Cave Story, created by Daisuke in 2004, uses the ORG file format to store music files for the track sounds played in the game. These ORG music files are created with OrgMaker, a free program available for Windows.
GNU Emacs, an open-source cross-platform text editor, creates ORG files to store plain text documents whose hierarchy is organized using simple marks and font variations. Org mode is a power mode of GNU Emacs that offers convenient plain text markup and other advanced features such as task management. Orgzly is a mobile app that works with GNU Emacs notes in the text ORG format. Yamaha's organ instrument software Musicsoft Downloader uses the ORG extension to save music information that contains flute notes that help produce flute sounds.
The Sound Blaster Pro sound card program uses organ files with the ORG extension.
ORG files may also contain metadata that describes the file itself with information such as the author, title, and timestamps. They can be converted to other structured formats including HTML and ODT. ORG text documents can be opened with plain text or source code editors which include Notepad, Leafpad, gedit, GNU Emacs, Notepad++, Atom, Sublime.
On Mac, ORG files can opened with text editors such as TextEdit and Pandoc.
Other file formats associated with ORG files include: TXT, HTML, XML and ODT.
How can I open an ORG file?
You need a suitable software like Emacs to open an ORG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ORG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ORG file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ORG format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the ORG files looks like this:
The ORG file extension is quite common and does not have a uniform file format. The file formats most commonly found in ORG files are:
- 15% of all ORG files belong to Org-mode. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The average file size is 8 KB with most files being between 960 bytes and 29 KB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The keywords TITLE and AUTHOR are typical for these files. These files are attributed to workshop.
- 10% of all ORG files use ZIP compression, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one ORG file. The 13 to 54 compressed files are called AndroidManifest.xml, classes.dex and resources.arsc. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The average file size is 30 MB with most files being between 1 MB and 31 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: META-INF/MANIFEST.MF and AndroidManifest.xmlu. A common filename is x5.tbs.org or miniqb.tbs.org.
All other ORG files (75%) have no uniform format, often, for example, Organya module, GENPO Organ, EXE, PDF, PNG, MHTML, MKV, Shimadzu and CPYA. These files sometimes refer to hindi, themoviehubs, english, notes, afgsystem or data. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your ORG file!

How to solve problems with ORG files
- Associate the ORG file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open document data files. Because only the current version supports the latest ORG file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the GNU Project manufacturer website after an available Emacs update.
- To make sure that your ORG file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ORG file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
