What is an OSD file
For many users, the primary use is in game character customization. For example, BodySlide and Outfit Studio use these files to store body shape data used in modding games.

How to open an OSD file
You need a suitable software like BodySlide and Outfit Studio to open an OSD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OSD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OSD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert OSD files:
- BodySlide and Outfit Studio
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. OSD files are often referred to as BodySlide and Outfit Studio games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Directory Opus (Configuration File) by GPSoftwareDirectory Opus goes beyond the simple file manager metaphor, and offers you a complete replacement for Windows Explorer and many other utility programs for handling FTP, ZIP, viewing files and images, running slideshows and more. In Directory Opus 9, all configuration is now stored on disk in XML format (except the file extension is .OSD). This file format is classified as XML.
- Open Software Description File by Microsoft CorporationOpen Software Description (OSD) files are used to describe software components, their versions, their underlying structures, and their dependence on other components. These files will be found in the subdirectory \WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES. This folder has a "system" attribute, so Explorer may not show it to you. Further, the .OSD extension will NOT appear; you need to drop to a command prompt and use DOS-style DIR commands to see them.
- SoftGrid (Program Description) by Softricity, Inc.Softricity's SoftGrid transforms applications into centrally managed network services that are accessible on-demand to Windows computers throughout an enterprise. OSD files are used to describe applications that have been packaged with Softricity's SoftGrid platform. OSD files describe applications packaged inside .SFT files. The Mime types used with this association are: text/xml. This file format is classified as XML.
OSD file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the OSD files:
You will often come across the OSD file type. This includes different formats for the applicable programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 35% of all OSD files start with the magic bytes 00 44 53 4F 01 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 3 MB in size and range from 250 KB to 8 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. These files are often associated with cbbe, body, armor, archmage, amazing, fusion, boots and girl.
- 15% of all OSD files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known by the name OLE2 Compound Document Format or Composite Document File Format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). Sections and streams in the file have names like AddStructures, Calculations, Contents, Embedding 1 and ProjectAdapter1. A typical file size is 610 KB. Such OSD files store data about system, optical, detection, project and ofdm.
All other OSD files (50%) have no consistent format, the following 9 formats exist: XML, SprutCAM, Page and HEAD. These files are often connected to ocldb, cbbebody, futanari, history, bikini, dress, coco or high. Just click the "Choose your .osd file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your OSD file is.

How to solve problems with OSD files
- Associate the OSD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest OSD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available BodySlide and Outfit Studio update.
- To make sure that your OSD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .OSD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
