PAGES file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the PAGES files:
PAGES is a very commonly used file extension and mainly uses a special format. The file formats most commonly found in PAGES files are:
- 99% of all PAGES files are based on the zip format, i.e. a PAGES file contains several compressed files. 13 to 50 compressed files with names like preview-micro.jpg, preview-web.jpg, preview.jpg, \Data\PresetImageFill0-1.jpg, \Data\PresetImageFill1-1.jpg, \Data\PresetImageFill2-1.jpg, \Index\Document.iwa, \Index\DocumentMetadata.iwa, \Index\Metadata.iwa and \Metadata\ are common. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The average file size is 650 KB with most files being between 120 KB and 940 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Data, Index/Document.iwa, JFIF, 8BIM, 8Photoshop 3.0 and PresetImageFill. Such PAGES files store data about blank, form, resume, letter, agreement, text, invoice, template and list, and often contain personal information.
- 1% of all PAGES files store the data in the Mac2OSX file format. The Mac2OSX format is an AppleDouble format and originally used to store additional metadata on Unix systems. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The average file size is 630 bytes with most files being between 390 bytes and 790 bytes in size. The following keywords are characteristic: Mac OS X, com.apple.iwork.documentUUID#PS, ATTR and com.apple.lastuseddate#PS.
