All about PAT Files
The PAT file type is primarily associated with Synology Assistant.
What is a PAT file?
In another context, a PAT file is a Photoshop pattern file. This file stores design patterns that you can use in Adobe Photoshop to fill shapes or backgrounds.
The PAT extension is also used in these areas:
How to open PAT files
You need a suitable software like Synology Assistant to open a PAT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PAT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PAT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PAT file format:
To view or edit PAT files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the PAT files produces the following result:
PAT is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The file formats most commonly found in PAT files are:
- 30% of all PAT files start with the magic bytes VERSION, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. Most of these files are 220 MB to 300 MB in size. The file type is a fairly new file format. The files contain the following words: 0000000, 0000755 and VERSION.
- 9% of all PAT files are associated with Adobe Photoshop Pattern. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 13 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 8BPT. These files can be linked to patterns.
All other PAT files (61%) have different formats, the following 9 formats can be found: CorelDRAW Pattern, PCStich pattern, Gravis UltraSound GF1 patch, SNNS pattern definition, Black and White 2 paths data, GIMP Pattern and KPAT. Sometimes used for windows or mail. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your PAT file!

a pat data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PAT files
- Associate the PAT file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest PAT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Synology Assistant update.
- To make sure that your PAT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PAT file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
