Opening a PCT File
The PCT file type is primarily associated with QuickTime.
What is a PCT file
These files appear in many contexts. For example:
FilExt.com tip: Identify the file's origin to choose the correct software for opening and editing it. The same extension can show different content depending on its creation source.
How to open PCT files
You need a suitable software like QuickTime to open a PCT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PCT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PCT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PCT file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the PCT files produces the following result:
Files with the PCT extension are quite widely used. This file type includes various formats for various programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 60% of all PCT files are QuickDraw/PICT bitmap files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 9 KB to 2 MB in size. The file type was primarily used more than 20 years ago. Files like these have the following tags: picture.
- 20% of all PCT files have the same signature F0 00 0A 00. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 87 KB and 5 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. TCIP. The following filename is common: billboard_plants_aspen_01__d_a.pct. These files are often associated with trucks, billboard, plants, height, level and azov.
All other PCT files (20%) have no uniform format, the following 7 formats can be found: NIST IHead bitmap, PC-Type document, DOC, TIMG and PICT. The category is trucks, billboard, plants, international, height, level or azov. You can get all the details of your PCT file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pct file to view this image" above.

a pct graphic image file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PCT files
- Associate the PCT file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open graphic image files. Because only the current version supports the latest PCT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available QuickTime update.
- To make sure that your PCT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PCT file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
