Opening PDS Files
The PDS file type is primarily associated with PowerDirector.
What is a PDS file
How can I open a PDS file?
You need a suitable software like PowerDirector to open a PDS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PDS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PDS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PDS file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the PDS files looks like this:
The PDS file type includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 30% of all PDS files are based on the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. PDS files can be up to 6 MB in size, but are often around 140 KB - 2 MB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <Project ActiveApplication="PowerDirector", ARAVersion, AppVersion, Pack="FALSE"><ExtraDataList/><Aurora DiscFormat="DVD" and TVSystem="NTSC" Preview. Files like these have the following tags: movie and video.
- 20% of all PDS files use the same file format, which have the signature ÜTï. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. PDS files are between 8 KB and 190 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" standalone="no"?>, <STYLE>, OPTITEX, FILENAME and <UNITS LINEAR="cm" SQUARE="sq.m" />. These files are often associated with hombre.
All other PDS files (50%) have no consistent format, the following 9 formats can be found: Print Shop graphic, The Print Shop Deluxe Sign, UTF-16 (LE), DOC and PrintShopDeluxe. They are often associated with christmas, combined, back or card. If you want to find out what your PDS file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with PDS files
- Associate the PDS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open video projects. Because only the current version supports the latest PDS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the CyberLink manufacturer website after an available PowerDirector update.
- To make sure that your PDS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PDS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
