Opening a PGP File
The PGP file type is primarily associated with Endpoint Encryption.
What is a PGP file
How to open a PGP file
You need a suitable software like Endpoint Encryption to open a PGP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PGP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PGP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PGP files:
- Endpoint Encryption by Broadcom
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PGP files are often referred to as Endpoint Encryption encodeds because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- AutoCAD (program parameter) by AutodeskAutoCAD is a computer-aided design software that is mainly used in the architectural industry. It saves program parameters in a PGP file. This file format is classified as Settings.
- GnuPG (signed/encrypted data/key) by The GnuPG ProjectGnuPG (short for GnuPG) is a free and open source cryptography software that is based on Pretty Good Privacy (now Endpoint Encryption). It can be used to decrypt an encrypted file saved in a PGP file. GnuPG is also able to create and sign a PGP key or signature. This file format is classified as Encoded.
- OpenPGP (signed/encrypted data/key) by OpenPGPOpenPGP is a free and open source cryptography software and standard. It saves a signed key or encrypted data in a PGP file. This file format is classified as Encoded.
- TBAV (data) by Dutchman Frans VeldmaTBAV (short for ThunderByte Antivirus) is a discontinued antivirus software for MS-DOS. It used some data saved in a PGP file. This file format is classified as Data.
PGP file extension format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the PGP files:
You will often come across the PGP file type. This does not have a uniform file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in PGP files:
- 20% of all PGP files use the same file format, which have the signature 85 01. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. PGP files can be up to 53 MB in size, but are often around 390 bytes - 1 MB. The file type is relatively new. A usual file name is credential.pgp or 2100.2020-06-01.pgp. These files are often associated with anlac, ppsc and xlsx.
- 20% of all PGP files have the same signature A8 03 50 47 50. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 65 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 1 MB. Such PGP files store data about attachment, docx and payment.
All other PGP files (60%) have different formats, often, for example, PGP message, PGP symmetric key encrypted message, Pretty Good Privacy Private/Secret Keyring and object. These files sometimes refer to foxmail, openpgp, public, report, data or prod. If you want to find out which format your PGP file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .pgp file to analyze".

a pgp signed/encrypted data/key is a special file format by Broadcom and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PGP files
- Associate the PGP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open signed/encrypted data/keys. Because only the current version supports the latest PGP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Broadcom manufacturer website after an available Endpoint Encryption update.
- To make sure that your PGP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PGP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
