Opening a PRL File
The PRL file type is primarily associated with Vendor-specific.
What is a PRL file?
For example, one kind stores heater configuration settings for PACOM devices using software like Sagemcom PRL Editor, while another version holds map data for navigation systems such as TomTom Navigator (TomTom) and has been used on Nokia Symbian OS devices.
Other PRL files serve in the medical field. Some are PACS image files produced by systems like PIDroid and related to Varian Medical Image technology, and others contain report data used by systems like Medico Report Writer from PractiCount.
Scientific applications also use this extension. There are NMR relaxation data files from ParaVision (Bruker) and structured SQLite database files – often referred to as a Parameter Relational List – that you can open with standard SQLite tools (SQLite).
In some business or project management scenarios, PRL files include price lists (using a JetDB format) or even act as a Microsoft Access lock file used with project management software. Laboratory analysis files, such as those containing antibiotic resistance data or particle size distribution measurements, are also stored under this extension, sometimes linked to systems like the MicroScan WalkAway 96 Plus System and DIAdem (Beckman Coulter).
FilExt.com tip: If you encounter a PRL file, review its context or origin to decide which vendor-specific tool or viewer is needed. Using a text editor or file analyzer to check file headers can reveal clues about its structure and underlying data.
How to open a PRL file
You need a suitable software like Vendor-specific to open a PRL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PRL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PRL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PRL files:
- Vendor-specific
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PRL files are often referred to as Vendor-specific miscs because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Paint Shop Pro (Rough Leather Preset) by Corel CorporationJasc was acquired by Corel Corporation on 14 October 2004.

PRL file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the PRL files produces the following result:
PRL is not a commonly used file extension and includes very many different file formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in PRL files:
- 9% of all PRL files start with the bytes " "t[ms]" "Mz" , which are crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are on average 1 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 1 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as "t[ms]". Some examples of file names are t1.prl.
- 10% of all PRL files start with the bytes PIDROID crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 12 MB in size and range from 5 MB to 25 MB. The keywords PIDROID, StudyInstanceUID1 and SeriesInstanceUID1.3.46.670589.1 are typical for these files. These files are often associated with image.
All other PRL files (81%) have no consistent format, often e.g. JetDB and Prog. These files are often connected to shieldvisualdesc, visualconfig, fileinput, regione or geoid. You can get all the details of your PRL file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .prl file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for PRL File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: Y:\SILICO~1\PROCES~1\ProcRev.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\METATR~1\mlp.exe
a prl data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PRL files
- Associate the PRL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest PRL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Vendor-specific update.
- To make sure that your PRL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
