PS format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our examination of the PS files comes to the following conclusion:
Files with the PS extension are quite widely used. This file type includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 55% of all PS files belong to Postscript document. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are 11 KB to 5 MB in size, with a median of 300 KB. The file type is very old but is also used today. The keywords Creator, Title, BoundingBox, CreationDate, Pages, %!PS-Adobe-3.0 and %!PS-Adobe-2.0 are typical for these files. Such PS files store data about logo, health, utmb, population, mecc, nadeloehr, dmbook, report, flyer, cmyk and plot.
- 10% of all PS files internally utilize the PDF file format. PDF is short for Portable Document Format, is a file format to present documents, including text formatting and images, in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. PS files can be up to 53 MB in size, but are often around 210 KB - 3 MB. These files are attributed to design.
All other PS files (35%) have different formats, frequently e.g. Encapsulated PostScript, IMKH and DXBC. Tagged as color, shader, front, hydro, document, name, pipe or room. Just click the "Choose your .ps file to view this image" button on this page to find out what your PS file is.

- Update your software that should actually open image or drawings. Because only the current version supports the latest PS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Adobe manufacturer website after an available Illustrator update.
- To make sure that your PS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
