What is a PXR file?

PXR files mostly belong to Photoshop by Adobe. PXR is the filename extension of high resolution images saved in Pixar raster image format. PXR format was developed by Pixar in 1986. It supports RGB, RGBA and grayscale color models. Photoshop or XnView may be used to view or edit PXR image images. Some application development programs associate PXR filename extension with HTML/CSS templates, PDF templates, custom scripts, and other templates written in Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) syntax. You may edit this type of PXR files with plain text editors such as Notepad or Sublime. The 2005 edition of Xpedition Designer (a printed circuit board design and simulation program) used PXR files to store some project information written in XML format.

How to open PXR files

You need a suitable software like Photoshop to open a PXR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PXR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PXR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

a pxr image is a special file format by Adobe and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with PXR files

  • Associate the PXR file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open images. Because only the current version supports the latest PXR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Adobe manufacturer website after an available Photoshop update.
  • To make sure that your PXR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .PXR file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
