Opening PY Files
The PY file type is primarily associated with Python.
What is a PY file?
How to open PY files
You need a suitable software like Python to open a PY file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PY file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PY file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PY files:
- Python by Python Software Foundation
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PY files are often referred to as Python developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Oracle Database (batch procedure) by OracleOracle Database is a multi-model database management system available as a native application and a cloud service. It uses a PY file to store batch procedure data. This file format is classified as Developer.
- Yahoo! Messenger (messages) by Yahoo!Yahoo! Messenger is a discontinued instant messaging client for desktop and mobile platforms. It saved messages in a PY file. This file format is classified as Data.
PY file extension format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the PY files is as follows:
PY is a very common file type and includes different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 20% of all PY files have the same signature # Copyright . These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are 3 KB to 45 KB in size, with a median of 15 KB. It is a modern file type. The files contain the following words: # Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person, # obtaining a copy of this software and associated documentation files, # (the "So and # Copyright 2004-2019 Tom Rothamel <pytom-bishoujo-us>. A usual file name is music.py or script.py. These files can be linked to character, init, dialogue, text, audio, image, scriptedit and sound.
- 20% of all PY files start with the bytes import crucial for this file format. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 240 bytes to 11 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. import and from. The following filename is common: Main.py. These files are attributed to train, classifier, revstr, server, generator, randomize, training, zipcrack, client, parser, nitro, utils and game.
All other PY files (60%) have no uniform format, often, for example, shell script, UTF-8, config, from, PydevCodeAnalysisIgnore, print, def, import and Python. Often described as config, python, model, project, video or data. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your PY file!

a py script is a special file format by Python Software Foundation and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PY files
- Associate the PY file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open scripts. Because only the current version supports the latest PY file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Python Software Foundation manufacturer website after an available Python update.
- To make sure that your PY file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PY file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
