Opening a QXP File
The QXP file type is primarily associated with QuarkXPress.
What is a QXP file?
How do you open QXP files?
You need a suitable software like QuarkXPress to open a QXP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your QXP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a QXP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert QXP files:
- QuarkXPress by Quark
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. QXP files are often referred to as QuarkXPress page layouts because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- QuickCreate (project) by SanScripQuickCreate is a discontinued course authoring software for older Windows operating systems. It saves a course project in a QXP file. This file format is classified as Page Layout.
QXP file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the QXP files looks like this:
You will often come across the QXP file type. This is primarily used by a single program. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 90% of all QXP files belong to QuarkXpress project. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 170 KB and 16 MB in size. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. The files contain the following words: IIXPR and MMXPR. These files can be linked to brochure, project, katalog, book, menu, oandmtemplate, envelope, sample, cover, quark, card, logo and page.
- 5% of all QXP files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "FF 00" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The file size is in the range of 600 KB to 62 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as MMXPR.
All other QXP files (5%) have no consistent format. Often described as booklet or website. You can get all the details of your QXP file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .qxp file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for QXP File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Quark\QuarkXPress 6.1\\QuarkXPress Passport.exe
a qxp design project is a special file format by Quark and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with QXP files
- Associate the QXP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open design projects. Because only the current version supports the latest QXP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Quark manufacturer website after an available QuarkXPress update.
- To make sure that your QXP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .QXP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
