Opening an RMF File
The RMF file type is primarily associated with Renoise.
What is an RMF file?
At times, an RMF file is also used as a 3D model format. In these cases the file holds geometric data useful for 3D rendering, such as vertices and texture information.
How to open RMF files
You need a suitable software like Renoise to open an RMF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RMF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RMF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert RMF files:
- Renoise
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. RMF files are often referred to as Renoise audios because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Acrobat (Rights Management Document) by Adobe Systems IncorporatedAdobe Acrobat is a family of computer programs developed by Adobe Systems, designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF). Some software in the family are commercial, and some are free. Adobe Reader (formerly Acrobat Reader) is available as a no-charge download from Adobe's Web site, and allows the viewing and printing of PDF files. Acrobat and Reader are widely used as a way to present information with a fixed layout similar to a paper publication.
- Beatnik Rich Music Format by BeatnikRMF is Beatnik’s proprietary format for playing MIDI music simultaneously with digitally recorded audio samples. This format allows composers to combine the benefits of MIDI (high fidelity and small file size) with the customized sound of recorded audio while creating a file that can be used for polyphonic ringtones, interactive game audio and user alert tones. RMF contains a lightweight 40-bit encryption scheme and includes metadata fields for comments. This file format is classified as Audio.
- Rich Map FormatUsed in various 3D Games. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: 52 4D 46 00, ASCII: RMF. This file format is classified as Game. Related links: Worldcraft Setup Tutorial
RMF file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the RMF files is as follows:
RMF is seldom used as a file extension and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all RMF files belong to Rich Music Format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 57 KB in size and range from 730 bytes to 110 KB. The files contain the following words: IREZ.
- 15% of all RMF files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "oyxNDvjqIiQHxW2XElT08Hx9R+W0pU3+BUNVjFDCUcMYm4xRy6" at the beginning. These files contain text and words, not binary data. A typical file size is 210 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: BUNVjFDCUcMYm, HDiLtv, W0pU3, jAjL, oyxNDvjqIiQHxW2XElT08Hx9R and xuHjRpYKgbA.
All other RMF files (65%) have no uniform format, such as RealMedia File container. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your RMF file!

an rmf multimedia container is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RMF files
- Associate the RMF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open multimedia containers. Because only the current version supports the latest RMF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Renoise update.
- To make sure that your RMF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RMF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
