Opening SCA Files
The SCA file type is primarily associated with SpectraSuite.
What is an SCA file?
For many users, an SCA file contains spectroscopy or spectrophotometer data. This type of file holds instrument readings and spectra that need dedicated software to view and analyze.
Other SCA files include:
When you encounter an SCA file, check its origin or any metadata for clues on the correct software to use. Specialized tools such as spectroscopy software, simulation environments, or enterprise applications might be needed to open and view these files correctly.
FilExt.com remember: The same file extension can represent different formats. Identifying the file source is key to choosing the right application.
How can I open an SCA file?
You need a suitable software like SpectraSuite to open an SCA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SCA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SCA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SCA files:
- SpectraSuite
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SCA files are often referred to as SpectraSuite data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.

- PHASESPHASES is a package of computer programs designed to compute phase angles for diffraction data from macromolecular crystals. The programs are written in FORTRAN 77 with the exception of a single C interface subroutine (facilitating use of X-Window graphics in some programs) and are applicable to any space group without requiring changes by the user. The program package was written by W. Furey, VA Medical Center and University of Pittsburgh, Dept. of Crystallography. Documentation dates from 1997. Related links: PHASES Documentation

SCA file format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the SCA files looks like this:
An SCA file is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 60% of all SCA files start with the magic bytes Time:, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. SCA files can be up to 120 KB in size, but are often around 840 bytes - 19 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Lamp:0, SLIT:0.000000, Time, Step:1.000000, 000000 0, Filter:5, January and Filter:10. These files can be linked to sample, ctab, ziziphus, cdot, flav and ctabb.
- 9% of all SCA files are based on the zip format, i.e. an SCA file contains several compressed files. The included 7 to 160 files have file names such as \DEPLOYARCHIVES\, \META-INF\ and \META-INF\MANIFEST.MF. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. A typical file size is 16 MB. The keywords META-INF/MANIFEST.MF, META-INF/PK and META-INF/SAP_MANIFEST.MF are typical for these files.
The remaining 31% of all SCA files are different files with different signatures, the following 5 formats can be found: version and SCA. If you want to find out which format your SCA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .sca file to analyze".

an sca data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SCA files
- Associate the SCA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SCA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SpectraSuite update.
- To make sure that your SCA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SCA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
