All about SCI Files
The SCI file type is primarily associated with Scilab.
What is an SCI file?
Scilab scripts: Some SCI files contain program code used in Scilab. These files hold numerical commands and functions in plain text, and they execute within the Scilab environment.
AccuSoft image files: Other SCI files store image data created with AccuSoft Inspire Pro and handled by AccuSoft ImageGear.
Scientific WorkPlace documents: In some cases, the extension belongs to files that hold scientific documents with structured text and equations.
CST PCB stackup files: A few SCI files are used by CST Studio Suite to hold PCB stackup data, sometimes incorporating .NET elements.
Multimedia: Rarely, the extension has been applied to audio or video files.
Use the associated application to open and view the file. For example:
How to open an SCI file
You need a suitable software like Scilab to open an SCI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SCI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SCI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SCI file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the SCI files looks like this:
SCI is not a common file extension and covers a large number of different file formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all SCI files start with the bytes Inspire , which are crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 680 KB in size and range from 82 KB to 960 KB. The files contain the following words: Inspire, JFIF, Created by AccuSoft C, Created by AccuSoft Corp and Pro v1.6.
- 15% of all SCI files are based on the well-known Source file format. A source code is the set of instructions written by a programmer using a computer programming language like JavaScript, C++ or Basic. This code is translated into machine language by a compiler. The translated result is called app, program or executable. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are on average 660 bytes in size and range from 270 bytes to 1 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as function. Files like these are sometimes connected to worst, case and hole.
The remaining 70% of all SCI files are different files with different signatures, the following 3 formats can be found: ZIP. Sometimes used for quest, truss or exerc. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your SCI file!

How to solve problems with SCI files
- Associate the SCI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open script files. Because only the current version supports the latest SCI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Scilab update.
- To make sure that your SCI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SCI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
