What is an SGI file
How to open an SGI file
You need a suitable software like Solitaire to open an SGI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SGI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SGI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- PaintShop (image) by Corel
- SealedMedia Unsealer (image) by SealedMediaSealedMedia was an online service that provided digital information protection by "sealing" files, emails etc. before sharing them across the internet. By sealing the content of such packages, the owner is able to prevent authorized access to the contents. Sealed GIF images had SGI filename extension. This file format is classified as Encoded.
- The Sims 4 (game data) by Electronic ArtsThe Sims 4 is a cross-platform life simulation video game available for desktop, mobile, and console devices. It stores some game data in SGI files. This file format is classified as Game.
SGI file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the SGI files is as follows:
The SGI file extension includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 55% of all SGI files are associated with Silicon Graphics bitmap. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The average file size is 760 KB with most files being between 12 KB and 8 MB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Such files are related to light, scene, restaurant, option, logo, result, sample, someimage and chromium.
- 30% of all SGI files have no uniform signature. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 38 KB to 53 KB.
The remaining 15% of all SGI files are files with no common format, such as YFFI. These files are often connected to euclideab, original, sequence, brush, orion, stack or hair. Just click the "Choose your .sgi file to view this image" button on this page to find out what your SGI file is.
