What is an SGI file

SGI files mostly belong to Solitaire by Microsoft. SGI filename extension is mainly associated with images saved in Silicon Graphics Image file format. SGI images support 3-color (RGB) channels and they are either uncompressed or RLE-compressed. An SGI file begins with a 512-byte header followed by pixel data. SGI format was originally used on Silicon Graphics workstations but it can be opened with programs such as PaintShop, XnView, and After Effects. SGI is also the filename extension of data files containing statistics used by Solitaire and Spider Solitaire card games on Windows operating system. Some game data used by The Sims 4, a life simulation video game are also saved in SGI files.

SGI file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the SGI files is as follows:

The SGI file extension includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

The remaining 15% of all SGI files are files with no common format, such as YFFI. These files are often connected to euclideab, original, sequence, brush, orion, stack or hair. Just click the "Choose your .sgi file to view this image" button on this page to find out what your SGI file is.

How to solve problems with SGI files

  • Associate the SGI file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open statistics. Because only the current version supports the latest SGI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Solitaire update.
  • To make sure that your SGI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .SGI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
