What is an SVF file?

SVF files mostly belong to MicroStation by Bentley. SVF is associated with the Simple Vector Format used to store 2D vector images created with computer-aided design programs such as MicroStation. Such SVF files contain lines, points, arcs, polylines, text, hyperlinks, and layer information. SVF is also the filename extension of the Serial Vector Format for saving and exchanging boundary scan vectors used to debug and test programmable logic device (PLD) designs. The content of such SVF files include test commands and parameters written in ASCII text. These files are used to exchange scan vectors between PLDs and programming software such as ISE Design Suite. System Center (also called Endpoint Configuration Manager) uses SVF files to save status summary data. The SVF file used by Smart Review 3D visualization software contains graphics objects from multiple VUE project files. SmartVersion, a program which stores multiple versions of files saves all versions of a file to in an SVF container.

How to open an SVF file

You need a suitable software like MicroStation to open an SVF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SVF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SVF file directly in the browser:.
